Plan a Visit to Fort Worth's Log Cabin Village

Fort Worth Cabin

Fort Worth's Log Cabin Village offers visitors a glimpse into pioneer times. Located near our Fort Worth homes for sale, this site is a museum where you can explore and interact with the perfectly preserved exhibits.

About the Village

The Log Cabin Village is a historical site operated by the City of Fort Worth. Its goal is to preserve examples of pioneer architecture and help show modern Texans what frontier life was like. The site contains several historic buildings that were moved from other parts of Texas.

The village is located at 2100 Log Cabin Village in Fort Worth, Texas, and is open between Tuesday and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission costs $7 per person aged 18 to 59 and $6 for children, teenagers, or seniors. Groups of 10 people or more can get tickets for just $5 per person. The last tickets are sold at 3:00 PM, so be sure to arrive before then if you haven't bought your tickets in advance.

Exploring the Cabins

The Log Cabin Village's historic structures are the site's main attractions. These buildings are mostly log cabins that were built by settlers during the 19th century. Each one is a simple home made from cedar and oak planks with just one or two rooms. Each one was deconstructed, moved to the village, and carefully reassembled on the village's grounds. Later, the village acquired the one-room Marine Schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, and an old gristmill attached to another log cabin.

Each of the exhibition buildings is equipped with detailed labels stating what each part of the structure was used for. There are also historical interpreters on hand to answer all of your questions and offer additional information on pioneer life. Our real estate agents love how they use the art of storytelling to bring their audience closer to the real people who once lived in these old buildings.

Other Attractions

Once you've spent some time touring the cabins, there's even more to do on the village's grounds.

Visiting the thriving herb garden and nearby drying shed demonstrates how the settlers lived on the frontier. There are also many walking paths you can take to get a closer look at the natural landscape and imagine yourself in an earlier time.

Finally, you can stop by the village's gift shop to pick up some souvenirs. This shop stocks all kinds of memorabilia, but it's especially well-known for its stick candy and old-fashioned soda pop. You won't find treats like these at your local grocery store!

Make Your Home on the New Frontier

The Fort Worth area's history is rich and – thanks to projects like the Log Cabin Village – has been carefully preserved for future generations. You and your family deserve the chance to experience it. Contact us today to start looking for your next home in our vast selection of Fort Worth and Dallas homes for sale.

There is a small admission charge to access these trails. The funds are used to maintain the Audubon center, trails, bathrooms, and other facilities.

Harry Moss Park contains a 5.6-mile mountain bike trail that stretches along White Rock Creek. This is a great trail to ride on hot days as the water keeps temperatures a bit cooler. There are a few hilly sections, but the trail is beginner-friendly overall. You'll ride over a few small bridges.

The Harry Moss Park trail does welcome walkers and hikers, too. So if you want to see the scenery but don't have your bike with you, just go for a walk.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you're still looking for a home to buy. We'd love to help guide your search.

Spring Gardening Tips

Now that you've acquired your gardening supplies, how do you turn your garden into something truly marvelous? Follow these tips in your Texas garden.

  • Are your perennials getting enough water? Use a rain gauge to determine the weekly average. If it's less than half an inch, they need more.

  • Apply a layer of compost and mulch to annuals and perennials for improved drought tolerance as warmer weather approaches.

  • Wait for spring-blooming plants to die completely before pruning.

  • Avoid the use of "weed and feed" products on your lawn. Runoff pollution during rains results in damage to the ecosystem.

  • Planning a fruit and vegetable garden? Good foods to plant in April and May include corn, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, summer squash, and herbs such as basil, dill, fennel, and thyme.

Texas Wine Trails to Explore This Summer

Texas Wine

Dallas, Fort Worth, and the many wonderful smaller cities in North Texas are home to some of the state's best, most acclaimed wineries. In addition to producing award-winning wines, these wineries often host special events where you can enjoy great food, camaraderie, live entertainment, and unique, behind-the-scenes tours. Many of the area's most popular wineries work together to create wine trails, with coordinated events that make it easy to explore all that various local wineries have to offer. Our real estate agents have the delicious details on 4 North Texas wine trails that you will love to explore this summer.

Dallas Town and Country Wine Trail

The Dallas Town and Country Wine Trail is the perfect option for anyone who wants to visit some amazing wineries close to Dallas homes for sale. There are six great wineries to visit on this trail, including Carmela Winery, Eden Hill Winery and Vineyard, Caudalie Crest, Lone Star Wine Cellars, Landon Winery, and Grayson Hill Winery. Many of these wineries are located in quaint, historic town squares in smaller communities just outside of Dallas. Taste some award-winning local wines, enjoy scenic countryside drives between each winery, and learn more from the experts about how some of the best wines around Dallas are produced.

North Texas Wine Country Trail

Looking for a single wine trail that can keep you busy with new places to explore all summer long? The North Texas Wine Country Trail includes wineries in 22 counties, starting with the DFW region and spreading out through a diverse selection of North Texas communities. There's a winery for every taste on this trail, from urban wineries in DFW to sprawling, countryside vineyards located far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. There's a ton to explore throughout the summer, and the fun continues well into the fall. Keep an eye out for big events like the Downtown Wine Walks of North Texas Wine Country and the Windsong Wine & Music Festival.

Grapevine Wine Trail

Located just a short drive from the big cities, the Grapevine Wine Trail showcases five of the best wineries in downtown Grapevine. Most of the wineries on this trail are within walking distance so that you can enjoy a leisurely walk through Grapevine's historic downtown between each stop. During coordinated events on the Grapevine Wine Trail, one ticket will give you access to three tastings with food pairings at each winery on the trail, along with a commemorative wine glass from each winery that you visit. Check the website regularly for scheduled events, and plan ahead for transportation if you'd rather not walk between wineries.

Vine & Wine Tours of North Texas

These tours will take you to some of the oldest wineries in DFW, with the opportunity to tour production facilities, ask questions to expert winemakers, stroll through the vineyards, and of course, taste some incredible wines. National Chicken Wing Day: Restaurants Near Dallas to Try

Dallas Chicken Wings

Mark your calendars, wing fanatics: July 29th is National Chicken Wing Day! It's the holiday we never knew we needed. If you happen to be in Dallas-Fort Worth for this momentous occasion, be sure to check out these great local wing spots.

  • Wing Bucket - 101 S Coit Rd #10, Richardson, TX 75080
With a name like Wing Bucket, you can be confident that you'll get some pretty awesome wings. This place doesn't disappoint, with juicy jumbo wings cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. They offer some fun and inventive sauces like bourbon, bacon, and orange ginger, as well as old standbys like mild, medium, and hot buffalo sauce. Wing Bucket is just minutes from these Richardson homes for sale, with additional locations in Downtown Dallas and Deep Ellum.

  • LB Wings - 3015 Gulden Ln, Dallas, TX 75212
At LB Wings, you can order wings by the pound. And lest you worry that you're getting quantity over quality, you can rest assured. These wings pack amazing depth of flavor and a wide spectrum of spice levels, with flavors including buffalo, chipotle BBQ, and mango-habanero. LB Wings is a stone's throw from many Dallas homes for sale, and in addition to killer wings, they also offer some really great side dishes, like fried okra, smoked green beans, and bourbon corn.

  • Gidi Wings - 921 W Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75208
The folks at Gidi Wings do one thing—make great wings—and they do it very well. This Dallas favorite offers a minimalist menu that includes wings, sides (either fries or veggies), drinks, and that's pretty much it. Choose between traditional bone-in wings or boneless wings, and decide which of their 18 wing sauces and flavors best suits your palate. Choose Volcanic Fire if you have a thing for heat or Carolina Reaper if you have a death wish.

  • Tail Feathers Wing Wagon - 2800 Bledsoe St #150a, Fort Worth, TX 76107
With a reputation as the best local wing spot in Fort Worth, Tail Feathers Wing Wagon has really got that perfect crispy-yet juicy wing thing locked down. The wings are slathered in sauce ranging from mild to inferno and served with homemade thick-cut potato chips. The only problem with Tail Feathers is that it can be hard to find. It's actually inside another business called the Whiskey Garden, just down the road from these Forth Worth homes for sale.

  • Pluckers Wing Bar - 190 E Stacy Rd Ste 1800, Allen, TX 75002
A local branch of the beloved Austin-based wing establishment, Pluckers Wing Bar is a classic hot-wings-and-cold-beer joint with a fun, welcoming atmosphere. With a location convenient to many Allen homes for sale, Pluckers is especially well-known for their incredible variety of wing sauces (more than 25 flavors to choose from) and the ability to order a whopping 100 wings.

  • Smoky Rose- 8602 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX 75218
Smoky Rose is known for making some delicious smoked meats in Dallas, from brisket and pulled pork to ribs and sausage. They offer wings too, but they do them a little differently here. The wings are slowly smoked before being flash-fried and dunked in sauce, and the result is a whole other level of flavor. They also serve up some amazing craft cocktails in their charming rustic-chic space.

You'll find an incredible variety of boba teas, smoothies, and other treats at Fruitealicious, along with iced coffee, lemonade, and tea. Each of their drinks comes with numerous options to make it your own, including the ability to choose your preferred sweetness level. That's great news for anyone who likes bubble tea but can sometimes find it too sweet. Fruitealicious has a handful of locations in and around the DFW area, but we're partial to the Fort Worth spot. It's just around the corner from Fort Worth homes for sale.

  5. Craft Boba Tea - 6105 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75206
There's a lot to love about Craft Boba Tea. This Dallas bubble tea mainstay has two locations, both with a charming mom-and-pop-store vibe, but each offering something a little different. The Greenville Avenue location, which is operated in conjunction with an awesome Thai eatery, offers tasty smoothies and fresh-pressed juices as part of their menu. The Bishop Avenue location, on the other hand, has unique boba tea-flavored frozen yogurt. Which is better? Who's to say. We highly recommend checking out both.

7 Speakeasies Worth Finding in Dallas

Dallas Speakeasy Bars - RE/MAX DFW Associates

Speakeasies rose to prominence during prohibition, illicitly serving alcohol in secret haunts out of sight and out of the law's reach. The fact that alcohol was made legal again more than 80 years ago has done nothing to diminish these establishment's appeal.

Today, speakeasies remain some of the best places in Dallas to grab a drink, with high-end cocktails, tasty happy hour specials, and second-to-none ambiance. Our real estate agents share some of the best old-fashioned watering holes to visit in the DFW area.

  1. Atwater - 4900 McKinney Ave.
Tucked away in an unassuming alleyway behind Henry's Majestic, Atwater is a dark, secretive den that feels like it belongs in another era. Walking into the dimly-lit bar room with its classic atmosphere and vintage decor gives the impression that you've discovered a secret world that you weren't supposed to know about. With high-end cocktails prepared by expert mixologists, it's a discovery you'll be glad you made.

  2. Parliament - 2418 Allen St.
Offering craft beers on tap and towering shelves lined with every spirit you could imagine, Parliament is a hip, cozy, romantic spot to grab a drink in a classic setting. The ambiance falls somewhere between Gatsby's Mansion and Ollivander's Wand Shop, and the bartenders are known for offering the most friendly service in town.

  3. Bourbon & Banter - 1914 Commerce St.
Nestled inside the historic Statler Dallas, Bourbon & Banter isn't just a bar, it's a bourbon library, a cocktail encyclopedia. This beauty salon turned underground lounge serves up endlessly innovative mixed drinks and houses the best bourbon collection in Dallas within its classy, sleek-rustic walls.

  4. High and Tight Barbershop - 2701 Main St.
Tucked away in the historic Deep Ellum Neighborhood, High and Tight Barbershop is exactly what its name implies—and then some. This 1920s-inspired barbershop offers haircuts and trims that are as stylish today as they were in the Roaring 20s, and the adjoining barroom serves up classic cocktails to the sweet sounds of live music.

  5. Black Swan Saloon - 2708 W. Elm St.
With a Vegas-meets-Texas vibe and extraordinary, unique takes on classic cocktails, Black Swan Saloon is a cozy, brick-lined hole-in-the-wall with minimal signage. If you didn't know it was there, you could walk right by and never know what you were missing (and what a shame that would be). Also, when the stage in the corner isn't being used for live music, you'll find a pair of vintage arcade tabletops with Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man, and Space Invaders. It's where the '20s meet the '80s.

  6. Midnight Rambler - 1530 Main St.
Midnight Rambler is a luxurious craft cocktail salon at the equally luxurious Joule Hotel. With a timeless ambiance and deep catalog of cocktails both familiar and exotic, D Magazine calls it the most "Dallas" bar in Dallas. DJs spin records Thursday through Sunday, and a great wine and craft beer list supplements the ever-changing cocktail menu.

  7. Jettison - 1878 Sylvan Ave.
You could visit Houndstooth Coffee in Sylvan Thirty a dozen times and not notice that this hidden gem is right next door. Jettison's spartan decor, and unassuming atmosphere, make it a minimalist take on the speakeasy concept—the collection of alcohol bottles displayed behind the bar is almost shockingly restrained—but the impeccably crafted cocktails confirm that this is one of Dallas' best-kept secrets.
